William Faulkner is one of the most famous American novelists.The thesis tends to analyze the racial attitudes and class conflicts in Snopes Trilogy which is one of Faulkner's later works on the basis of background of the Southern society and Faulkner's individual experiences. Based on such analysis, Faulkner's sympathy toward the blacks and poor whites and his condemnation on racism and slavery are presented evidently; meanwhile, the exploration of class conflicts may reveal the real causes of those conflicts in the American South. Faulkner depicts the South characterized by conflicts intends to show the blacks are not only the victims but whites as well and neither side benefits from the struggles. In addition, Faulkner appreciates"nigger lovers"and he wishes to see the harmonious relationship between races. While the thesis deals with all kinds of social conflicts, it aims at foucusing on Faulkner's desire for social harmony and the thesis plays a significant role in creating a modern harmonious society.
