The"Analects of Confucius"magazine was famous for its humorous essay and issued from September, 1932 to May, 1942. It is one of the most popular modern literal publications in that time, which also figures the most prominently value in the history of Modern Chinese Literature and the China publication. This dissertation takes the characteristics of Analects of Confucius before the Anti-Japanese War as its study object. In order to post the modernity characteristics of Analects of Confucius, base on the researches on the three characteristics of this journal, this paper analyzes and demonstrates the modernity of Analects of Confucius in four chapters.In detail, the first chapter mainly introduces the causes of the journal Analects of Confucius from the basic features of the characteristics, origins and the covers. The second chapter focuses on the modernity of the living space of this journal. Born in Shanghai—a city with high concentration of urban modernization—the Analects of Confucius turn to be the most popular literature journal in right place, at the right time and with the right people in 1930s. The third chapter focuses on the editing style of Analects of Confucius. The editing style is the core and starting point of a journal. An editing style which can keep pace with the times and provide with the characteristics of the times is the key point of a successful journal. As the editor in chief, Lin Yutang first creates a commercial, humor and popular editing style successfully, so that this journal can take root in China. The final chapter discusses the traces of modernity of the essays in the Analects of Confucius. Combined with the taste of the modernity in essays in this paper, the essays in the Analects of Confucius is a new highlight in the combination of the Chinese Culture and the Western Culture.
