Shih Chi And Literature Of Wei-jin, Northern And Southern Dynasties

Ever since the publication of Shih Chi, there are many scholars devoting their lives to study it and at the same time they get abundant achievements. Therefore, the cultural value of Shih Chi has been fully represented. Especially, in recent a hundred years, different fields have introduced many new ideas to their own fields by study of Shih Chi's encyclopedic knowledge. While, there is little research about the study of Shih Chi from text research, literature criticism and literature influence. Thus, this thesis is necessary to give an analysis bout them.This thesis'study is based on the Shih Chi. Firstly, it makes an systematical analysis about Shih Chi's influence on the current literature criticism and literature creation when Shih Chi was handed down and studied in Wei-Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties. The purpose is to explore the features of its handing down and studying. Besides, to know how many achievements are gotten and influences on the literature of Wei-Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties.People of that time were relatively free to convey their thoughts due to the political upheavals, which results in a comparatively alive literature atmosphere. Compared with Han Dynasty ,the spreading and studying range of Shih Chi at that time was more extensive. In this study, the author will make a brief inquiry between Wei-Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties and Han's handing down and studying of Shih Chi. The most influential scholars that promoted Shih Chi's carrying on are Xu Guang's"Shihchi Variorum"and Pei Yin's Historical Annnal, both of which prefer to study it from exegetical perspective with rarely comments. In addition, the two works mainly explain Shih Chi according to the current versions. Wei-Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties were a time of self-conscious literature. And this conscious literature origins from the Shih Chi,which presents in history and literature works from many aspects. Such influence makes a further effect on the future self-conscious literature which becomes prosperous with the progress of literature criticism in Wei-Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties.Literature criticism got its prosperity as well. Many writers started to notice Shih Chi's literature characteristics and made some simple narrations as they discussed it's historical features. The literature features have been mentioned in each chapter of the Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons ,a history of literature critics , which is extensive in scope and penetrating in thought. This thesis will mainly concentrate on"Express feelings of anger and savings"put forward by Liu Xie, which is the inherit and development of"vent their anger with the doctrine of writing a book"raised by Sima Qian. As the increasingly widespread of Shih Chi,people gather more and more attention on its writing technique, story plots, historic characters and historic stories, some of which have been employed by writers consciously or unconsciously. And many writers are also influenced by them. Shih Chi, this splendid historic essay provides tremendous literature material for the literature of Wei-Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties: offering literary quotations for poetic prose; providing intoning objects for eulogistic poems and supplying story plots for novels. On the other hand, this study will investigate the impact of Shih Chi on the style of Wei-Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties and will mainly focus on its effect on biographic literature, novel and other essays, among which the emphasis will be its impact on the miscellanea of biographic literature.
