As to the historical materials of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Mr Mu kehong has made a comprehensive, systematic statement. However, Mr Mu mostly introduces the achievements of collection and research of the people after the Southern and Northern Dynasties. So, this dissertation attempts to begin from the original, historical materials of literature of the Southern and Northern Dynasties to analyse their original existences and the causes, and to discuss their characteristics so that it can give readers some references.The whole thesis contents 3 parts: the historical materials of writers' biography, the historical materials of literary works and the historical materials of the theoretical criticism of literature ; And it amounts to 4 chapters, 10 sections, more than 40,000 words.Chapter 1 describes the historical materials of writers' biography, which demonstrates to be more abundant compared with former generation. And it has various types of existence to display, which has close relations with the improvement of writers' status, etc. The historical materials of writers' biography of the Southern and Northern Dynasties has formed its own characteristics: laying more emphasis on the literary inclination in content, etc. Chapter 2 describes the collected works of the historical materials of literary works: First, pointing out its origin and analysing the main reasons of its prosperity; Second, describing its shapes of existence and summarizing its different types taken form; Third, probing into its characteristics: in large quantity (including emperor's collected works ), the type is rich and varied, etc. Chapter 3 describes the general collections, novels and proses of the historical materials of literary works. The part of the general collections analyses its origin, compiling backgrounds and characteristics. The part of the novels and proses analyses their different types of existence mainly. Chapter 4 describes the historical materials of the theoretical criticism of literature. First, it discusses the causes of its prosperity: the prosperity of literary creations, the activeness of thoughts, etc. Second, it analyses the three kinds of its types of existence: the monographs of the theoretical criticism of literature, etc. And it describes the characteristics of the three types.
