On The Double Values Of The Serial Story As A Literary Phenomenon

The serial story, as a literary phenomenon, existed in China for more than one hundred years.However, it is overlooked by academia for a long time.On the contrary, the serial story exists and even flourishes over a long period of time in reality. Especially in recent years, the serial story turns out to be a prosperous scene instead of being fading. No matter from its form, the way it transmits or its functions,comparing to the first half of last century it appears, the serial story changes greatly and presents new characteristics. However, the research on this phenomenon is few in academia, which is unsuitable with the prosperous serialization.Nowadays,with the development of the mass culture,the serial story, as a literary phenomenon, shows great life force and advantages in both the traditional medium and the new digital electronic medium.But the researches on it are limited, which is from the perspective of literature, and they hold a critical attitude.And this is disproportional with the status of the serial story and its great influence.So analyzing this phenomenon from a different perspective in the current new social environment is of great practical significance.This thesis analyzes the serial story from two aspects.Those are literary value and commercial value.The analysis of its literary value tends to admit its natural disadvantages. At the same time, the focus is on the analysis of the dominant position of the serial story in the creation of literary works.On the assumption of confirming the serial story showing a different form in a new condition, the analysis of the commercial value lies in the positive side of the serial story, such as its prospering light literature, improving the writers' condition, expending popular literature and flourishing cultural market.In words, the serial story, as a literary phenomenon which lasted for more than one hundred years in China, makes positive contribution to the development of Chinese literature.The simple focus on its detriment on creation and its adverse impact on literature is no good to literature and the proper judgment on the serial story. With the development of society, the serial story displays new characteristics and new trend of development, which shows off new values.It is impropriate to regard this phenomenon with the traditional literary point of view. So by the research on the serial story's literary value and commercial value, this thesis tends to posit the serial story's position in the creation of literary works and its influence on the new Chinese literature from a new point of view. This thesis, together with the trend of current literature,also analyzes the new connotation that the serial story posses in the new period and its influence on the popular culture. Furthermore, this thesis research on the role that the serial story plays in the new literature and the commercial value that it displays in this process.
