Frederick Jackson Turner is one of the greatest American historians from the late 19 century to the early 20 century. His unique ideas and distinctive views on history have had a profound impact on United States historians at that time and later. This article tries to elaborate Turner's conception of historiography, methods of historical research, feature of historical writing and so on. It also analyses the reasons of Turner History's decline, and its rich historical heritage. Finally it attempts to have a reasonable assessment on Turner History.This dissertation consists of three parts, which are Forward, Text and Epilogue. And the Text has four chapters.Chapter One focuses on Turner's living background, academic environment and unique upbringing.Chapter Two elaborates Turner's conception of historiography, from progressive view of history, practical values, and seeking innovative three aspects.Chapter Three firstly analyses the variety of Turner's methods on historical research. Secondly analyses the characters of Turner's historical writing from some aspects such as:the political history transforming to economic-social history. historical integrity,continuity and analysis.Chapter Four focuses on the reason for the decline of the Turner's History and the rich heritage left to future generations, and then attempts to have a reasonable assessment on Turner's History.
