The Frontier Study Of West China Frontier Research Society(1922-1950)

The West China Frontier Research Society,founded in 1922,is an international academic institution founded by western scholars dominated by missionaries and with the purpose of West China frontier research.In the early stage,the Society was mainly led by Western scholars,carried out a series of investigations and studies on anthropology,natural science,religion and archaeology in the western China frontier region,and established an academic journal--the Journal of the West China Frontier Research Society.It is one of the most influential academic journals in the southwest of the Republic of China.In the early 1930 s,in order to meet the needs of the political situation,the Society carried out localization reform.in the early 1930 s,Chinese scholars began to join the association and after the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War,the number of Chinese scholars joined increased year by year.Chinese scholars who joined the association,relying on the society,actively carried out frontier research,increasingly become the main force of the society's frontier research,and made important contributions to the frontier construction of modern China.During the war,the increase in the number of Chinese scholars in the society greatly promoted the development of the society,and formed a frontier research group of Chinese scholars,resulting in a prosperous situation of frontier research in which Chinese scholars gathered in West China and fought collectively.The author pays attention to the groups of Chinese scholars who joined the society,and clarifies the significance of Chinese scholars' research on the local frontier in the West China Frontier Research Society by means of overall grasp and case analysis.through their research results,we can roughly show the style and features of the frontier research in the field of vision of the Chinese people at that time.
