Xinjiang, as one of the major ethnic minority areas in China, is of great natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and intrinsic ethnic customs. Because of her distinctive natural geographical feature and human social style, many talented composers have created vast well-known piano works. Given the selected leading composers' representative piano works, this research conducts the focus analysis from musicology perspective.This research consists of three chapters. The opening chapter discusses the genesis and features of Chinese ethnic minority piano works. The second chapter conducts the preliminary analysis of Xinjiang ethnic music style and some summaries are made. Chapter thee is the major contribution of this dissertation. Based on previous chapters'discussion, Chapter three provides detailed descriptions and analysis on three representative composers and their major works, First Dance in Xinjiang and Spring Dance, The Second Dance in Xinjiang and Spring Dance, and Tarim People respectively. Further investigations are taken into the realms of musical form, harmony, melodic study, rhythm and tune. At the same time, the embedded music aesthetics particularly probes for the analysis of above three works.Providing above thorough investigation, two research targets are designated to achieve:have a better understanding of above piano works and their representing characteristics of Xinjiang ethnic music styles; and, establish some feasible research methods and perspectives for studies of Chinese regional and ethnic minority areas music works.
