Beethoven is a worle-renowned musician.The remarkable achievements he made are much greater than what the ordinary musicians are dreaming of. He is a milestone figure in the history of the development of world music, and the typical representative in the long river of music like lighthouse for navigation. He created 256 works in his whole life, of which symphony was reperesentative, his 32 piano sonatas following closely in significance.The 32 piano sonatas he made are the peak of the piano art,which draw a lot of attention from many music theorists,composers and performers.The researches of them arequite excellent as well.The theoretical circles divide Beethove's creation into three periods:early period,mid period and late period.The writer is mainly focusing on Fugue in Beethoven's late piano sonatas.Fugue is the important feature of his late works,and also it is one of the factors that make the works of Beethoven's late period difficult to be understood. He inherited the complex technology on fugue and made further innovation and development, which opened up a new situation for later composers to create fugue. Extensive use of fugue reflected the change in Beethoven's creative thought, which had an essential role and influence on his piano sonatas afterwards. It made the sonatas in Beethoven's later years incarnat the characteristics different from those in his first two periods both in creative technology and style. The study on Beethoven's fugue is not fully yet. Researchers pay more attention to creative style and performance skill than the role and influence of fugue. In this case, author of this essay takes Beethoven's fugue as object of study, setting it into music ontology, combining with music analytics as well as philosophy and comprehensive knowledge on the study of comparative. By inspecting the role of fugue in the sonatas in Beethoven's later years, speculative and empirical approach is applied in this research to seek for the keys of sonata and related fugue. In this way, we can enjoy a better understanding of the true meaning of Beethoven's works in his later years from the view of a new dimension.
