The traditional culture, whenever and wherever, plays a crucially guiding role in the expression of national characteristics. So does the traditional bamboo culture. However, bamboo, the image of Chinese dignity, wins deep affection of people in many countries especially in China, with its strong interior personality of suffering extreme cold. We entrust bamboo with human connotation, and show our ambition and character through it. In essence, to personalize bamboo is not a simple modifying, but an outward manifestation of people's outlook about the world.Now, our current research on bamboo is mainly focused on the design of the bamboo craftworks, the bamboo art and crafts, the bamboo landscape planning and design and so on. We emphasize its environmental conservation and our deep emotion to it, but we seldom research on the bamboo culture and its application on the design of logo, advertisement, book, package, etc, to express inner words through graph, sign and vision sense. The thesis stands in this manner, so the author uses philosophy, history, ethnology, psychology, arts, and esthetics on its research. The author analyses the inner spirit of bamboo and its beauty of meditative mind, life, personality, nobility, neutralization. Author summarizes the language characteristics of visual expression, poetic, and modern language. Also author studies the formal language and techniques of expression through research on application of bamboo culture on the design of the logo, advertisement, book and packing, in order to transfer the shape and meaning of bamboo to a unique visual language of temporal spirit, nationality, and personality, to probe the expression of bamboo culture in visual design and enrich the connotation of national culture.
