This paper first introduces the concept, definition and classification of design education books, and then defines the readers:college and university students from the age of 16 to 26. After conducting a marketing survey of the readers, combined with its result and market analysis, this paper reaches a conclusion that the major problem of the Chinese design education book is that its content and concept are well behind its Western peers. The main causes of this problem are the domestic publishers'neglect of the significance of book binding design, the fickle mood in the market and the weakness of book designer's expertise. As a result, the readers of design education books prefer foreign books. Nevertheless, due to the high price of the reprinted edition of foreign books and the low income of the students, as well as their difficulty in reading foreign books, the readers are hesitated in choosing design education books. Therefore, domestic design education books need a precise positioning to boost its development and advancement, and then satisfy the need of the domestic readers. In the light of the significance analysis of book binding design of design education books, I believe that the optimization of book binding design is an important method to put an end to the backwardness of the domestic design education books.In the section of experimental book binding design, I propose this thought in consideration of the expression of its layout, pictures, colors, sense of order, and aesthetics, and its index system and exterior design. I will introduce successful cases of book binding design, both domestic and foreign, and compare the imperfection of domestic design education books. I will also analyze how to focus on the rapidness and accuracy of conveying information and to emphasize design logic, the combination of aesthetics and the function of guidance, in order to achieve high-quality output in book binding design of domestic design education books and satisfy the readers'need. Finally, I will summarize a positioning of domestic design education books in book binding design, and think about the future development design education books in the long term perspective, and also will propose advice and requests to design education book designers.This paper attempts to analyze existing problems and provide necessary solutions to the problems by positioning and experimental design of design education books. Very little research in book design has been done in relation to design education books, and no study has been done in the positioning of book binding design combined with the character and content of design education books, which resulted in the differences in the book binding quality of design education books existing in the market. Therefore, it is significant to do study in the positioning of book binding design of design education books. It is not only the content make the design education books popular among readers, but also the book binding design, which will provide guidance to the future advancement of book binding design of Chinese design education books.
