A Study On English Listening Strategy Training In Web-based Autonomous Learning Environment

In recent years, with the gradual improvement of the Ministry of Education on college English teaching reform, college English listening teaching has become the most important part during the process of teaching. The teaching requirement of the Ministry of Education in 2007 shows that the objection of the college English teaching is to cultivate college students' an ability of comprehensive application on English learning, especially the listening and speaking, and requires college English teacher to make use of the advanced information teaching technology to cultivate the ability of learners'autonomous learning. On the guidance of the syllabus, the college English test of Band 4 and Band 6 is also made a major regulation which increases the proportion of the listening test from the original 20% to now 35%. It indicates that it is extremely urgent to improve the college students' listening comprehension competence.However, due to the increase of college students and the insufficient of listening lessons, it becomes an obstacle to improving students' listening comprehension. Therefore, under the guidance of the college English teaching and based on the platform of the advanced web multimedia language laboratory, cultivating students to use the learning strategies, especially listening strategy in the autonomous learning environment, and achieving lifelong learning, has become a focus for domestic scholars.This thesis discusses the influence of cultivating of listening strategies for the non-English college students'listening comprehension competence under the web-based multimedia language lab. The subjects of this questionnaire are the students of Xi'an university of Finance and Economics, totally 96 students in the 2009 grade, while finally get 93. The SPSS 11.5 will be used to analyze the data collected from this questionnaire. According to the results, it shows the following two items. (1) There are obvious changes in listening comprehension competence after conducting the strategy training between the controlled group under the traditional teaching mode and the experimental group based on the web-based multimedia language laboratory in the autonomous environment. The listening achievement of the experimental group is a little bit higher than that of the controlled group. (2) From the frequency of using the strategy, most of the strategy in the experimental group is a bit higher than that of the controlled group. It shows that students in the experimental group take various listening strategies consciously to improve their listening comprehension competence under the web-based multimedia autonomous learning environment. Therefore, we can conclude that the good learning strategy is contributed to improving an ability of the listening autonomous learning.Therefore, it is necessary for college teachers to strengthen students to utilize the learning strategy, especially the consciousness of listening strategy during the web-based multimedia language lab. They are able to arrange, monitor and evaluate the learning effect so as to reach the improvement of listening comprehension competence.
