In mainland China, the drama The Invincible Ugly Lady has achieved great audience rating for the first season shown on Hunan Television Station since 2008. Many other television stations has joined the Self-invention drama market, raise a fierce competition for this kind of drama. Self-invention drama is funded solely by the television station, free selection of topic and script, with independent copy right for the drama. In modern social, with the fierce competition in the TV drama market, Self-invention drama becomes a new injection for the creation and innovation mode. The most advance treats of self-invention drama is to ensure the indecency of television station's drama sources, avoid the similarity of other television station during competition, and enhance the brand image of television station. Some early beginner has gained abundance economical benefits and attracted more loyal audience, as well as promoted the influence of the brand image. However, there are potential issues for our domestic self-invention drama, such as lack of original creation, similarity of plot, mass advertisement interference. The essay applies Lass well's"5W"mode, from the mass media point of view, analyses the current domestic self-invention drama situation. It unfolded the causes of rapid popularity of the domestic self-invention drama, at the same time, focused on the issues exposed from the existing market, suggested some valuable recommendations after careful consideration for the future development of our domestic drama.The essay consists three chapters. Chapter one explained the definition of the self-invent drama, introduced the develop history and current situation of its market. Moreover, the benefit and encouraging performance of self-invention drama are illustrated for the following research. Chapter two is the major section, divided into five subsections, analyses the causes of popularity of self-invention drama using"5W"mode. Main concept focus on the reason of television station participation in self-invention drama, the type of domestic self-invention drama, the contents, strategy, and publicity, through mass media analysis. Chapter three is the analysis for future market tendency, television station's selection for topic and innovation for more advancement.
