A Conversational Implicature-Theoretic Study Of Other-initiation Repair In Chinese Communication

Conversation is the most important way of language using in daily communication, it is expressed by the format of language turnnel, it is finished by speaker and listener joining together and understanding each other, many times, we may encounter some elements that make us hard to understand and communicate with each other, we call these elements trouble source. When listeners encounter trouble source , how to make a proper reaction is a worthy issue to research, this thesis will discuss this issue, that is what we call the phenomenon of other-initation repair.This aritcle based on the important theory of pragmatics---- Conversational Implicature. Differing from the former research which is mainly focused on foreign language communication, this article focuses on the research of Chinese communication. It divided the other-initiate repair into other-initiation self-repair and other-iniation other-repair according to the different finishers; and it divided the other-initiate repair into the single other-initiate repair and the repeated other-initiate repair according to its order and frequence in a conversation. This article mainly focuses on the single other-initiate,which is divided into parole other-initiate and non-parole other-initiate according to its initiate form. The article analyses the mode of other-initiate repair and strategy revolations about it when the trouble source occours from the perspective of the Conversational Implicature principle. Meanwhile, it confirms that the priciple of Priority to self-repair by Schegloff(1977) is also feasible in Chinese. The aritcle aims to raise the practicle suggestion when the trouble source occours,including the methods of listeners to corperate with the speakers and how to protect the speakers'feelings in public when the listeners wanted to stop him explaining,in order to complete the conversation successfully.
