George Eliot, an extraordinary woman, an important writer of United Kingdom in 19th century,didn't have a great number of literary works, but all of them left remarkable imprints in the annals of literature history. Her novel was full of morality and humanity, focused on social status and political trends, integrated the social environment of United Kingdom.In the Western world, George Eliot,the great realist writer, had gained much attention from the academy.As early as middle and late 19th century, Henry James began to keep a watchful eye on George Eliot, and considered her as the greatest model of organic novel creators in British novel field of which stick to true life and experience. In 20th century, literary critics F?R?Leavis believed that George Eliot was one of the great tradition of British novel. Not only did male critics concerned about George Eliot, female writers and critics in 20th century were also cared about her.Viginia Woolf, the famous British female writer, thought George Eliot was one of the four great female writers in United Kingdom, even panegyric of Middlemarch. Elaine Showalter, American famous feminist critics, classified George Eliot as the first phase of British women's literature—"female phase."In our country, since the end of the 20th century, and in-depth study of George Eliot were also gradually increased, emerged a variety of research articles and monographs, comments perspective were also has diversified trend.This dissertation uses Middlemarch, George Eliot's most representative mature work, as the research object, performs an analysis of the three female images in the work. The three women basically showed the contrary female consciousness of George Eliot. Dorothea reflected George Eliot's shadow, she always aspired to grand career, but never achieved, which was the very different outcome of George Eliot. Her failurewas not only due to her blind and ignorance, but also the tragedy of society. Rosamunde, appeared as a villain, were clearly typical of"successful"women in Victorian. She never had sublime ideals and pursuits, only hope to find a decent,"excellent"husband, to meet all the desire of her luxury comfortable life. And Mary, compared to the preceding two actress, she had always been a little"ugly duckling", but she was kind hearted, she was the only female without any shortcomings in this work, in which is the role of George Eliot's enjoy. Mary was dignified at all times, her femininity was admirable, she truly loved and helped her husband, and she did not have any utilitarian ideas of love. To a certain extent, Mary was a success, although the three roles had returned to their family, they shared a similar outcome, but only Mary realized her marriage ideal.Throughout the works of George Eliot, we can learn her views on women's issues had been very contrary due to her special religious and life experiences. Her life was full of resistance to traditional patriarchal society, but in all of her works, she did not advocate female walk to society to obtain the same rights as men.George Eliot written a women struggle history with her life, her works often had a serious theme, rich in philosophical and moral significance, they brought people a wealth of valuable literature. In the West, because of the richness in spirit of time and thought-provoking, her work was respected to a very high position. She placed the entire novels in the social life of United Kingdom, focused on all aspects of society, rather than concerned solely on women's narrow sad life, and self-pity.
