As a master of both Chinese and Western cultures, Qian Zhongshu expressed in one of his essays his translation theory"Enticement,""Misinformation"and"Sublimation,"which aroused the echo in the filed of translation. Nowadays, concerning this translation theory, different people hold different perspectives.Translation especially literature translation is unavoidably marked as a sort of rebellion. However, the rebel would not stand outlawed but make efforts to reach the ultimate goal of"sublimation"and his wide acceptance of identity in order to perfect himself on his way to the ultimate journey of translation, by means of reproducing the form and words in another language in such restricted and tough midway and space, and of balancing the relation between the restoration of the original text and the unintentional expression of personal tensile force. This philosophical epistemology and methodology have been embodied in Qian Zhongshu's translation theory"Enticement,""Misinformation"and"Sublimation."Both the recognition of the cross culture and bilingual translation activities by traditional integrated structuralism, and the scanning of the cultural, historic and social characteristics of pragmatics from the perspective of cultural studies, belong to the individual cognition. The reader has his own understanding, for he is living in a different social and cultural background, where the thinking mode and values are different from that of the writer, resulting in an individual cognition with the metaphysical"meaning beyond the word"in cognition. The existence of humanism in the process of cognition and the extension of the original artistic lifespan are different from the expected readers'group, and uncertainty and ambiguity of the esthetics that the language symbols bear in the literature works. With the explanation of the essence of translation and the basis of traditional translation theories, this paper elicits Qian's translation theory"Enticement,""Misinformation"and"Sublimation"in the very beginning. With the help of the past related empirical analysis, this paper starts with the understanding of what is translation in Qian Zhongshu's translation theory"Enticement,""Misinformation"and"Sublimation,"and then analyzes this translation theory deeply influenced by in such aspects as both Chinese and western cultures, especially the heritage of speculative philosophy, in order to propose a new interpretation and cognition of his translation theory. In Chapter One, with the start of the analysis of the connotation and essence of translation and the discussion about the basis of traditional Chinese translation theories, this paper proposes the assumption that the reason for Qian Zhongshu to put forward this translation theory derives from the influence of both Chinese and western wisdom paradigms. On the basis of this assumption, the analytical method for this paper is proposed. In Chapter Two, with the analysis on the journals collected in CNKI, this paper tries to classify them into the following research schools: analyses on"sublimation"itself, philosophical and aesthetical perspectives, correlative perspective, comparative perspective and scientific perspective. In Chapter Three, this paper starts with the brief introduction and explanation of the connotation of the three terms"enticement,""misinformation"and"sublimation,"and then puts forward their significance. With these analyses, the inspiration and the analytical method for this research have been achieved. In Chapter Four, this paper will start with the analysis of the cause of formation of this translation theory, and then draw the conclusion that behind the translation is his profound accumulation of Chinese cultural root, especially the Chinese traditional cultural heritage and speculative philosophy. By means of the analysis of the past translation theories, this paper concludes that all the traditional are marked with national characteristics including the cultural heritage and speculative philosophy. And the cause of Qian Zhongshu's translation theory is no exception. Then this paper attempts to analyze the two profound concepts"Yi"and"Dao"to illustrate their influence on Qian's translation theory. Meanwhile, starting with Qian's educational and cultural background, this paper tries to adopt the western philosophical ideas of"phenomenology,""hermeneutics"and"epistemology"to perceive their influence on Qian's translation theory. In Chapter Five, the present significances of Qian Zhongshu's translation theory"Enticement,""Misinformation"and"Sublimation"are concluded, including the thinking mode fusing with both Chinese and western wisdom, the systematic and formation of integrated thinking mode, the approval for subjectivity in translation, and the return of ontological study on translation. And finally new finding, limitations, and future research focus are put forward in the ending.
