In the thesis, the aim is to use the conceptual blending theory to reorganize the process of construal of humorous short message service, and to demonstrate the applicability and universality of conceptual blending theory. From the evolution of history, most researchers pay attention to the influence and value of form, context and function of humorous SMS. The research results are limited to pragmatic factors and social factors. However, people don't further study the inner mechanism of construal of humorous short message service. This is the question that will be solved in the thesis. The so called construal refers to the meaning construction of speech. According to cognitive linguistics, the construal is the mind phenomenon based on the experience and is the result of interaction of subject and object, so the focus of this thesis is put on the cognitive mechanism of humorous SMS, that is, the operation mechanism of meaning construction. Generally speaking, the thesis will explain the following aspects based on the framework of conceptual blending theory:[1] Interpreting the operation procedure of humorous short message service; [2] The way of construal;[3] The inner and outer factors which relates to construal.Firstly, the scientific research needs to clarify the object of study, according to the related classification in CaiXinGuangGao.com, the author mainly researches the short message service (SMS) which can only send the text message and limits the scope of SMS to humorous SMS, then, applies the conceptual blending theory and attempts to provide a new approach for the understanding of humorous SMS.The full text thought is as follows: firstly the author classifies the humorous SMS according to different mappings of frame in the conceptual integration network, and it is mainly divided into four categories: [1] humorous SMS of single framing network; [2] humorous SMS of frame network; [3] humorous SMS of one-sided network; [4] two-sided network; then, through the case study, the thesis testifies the explanation power of conceptual blending theory; furthermore, the research of inner and outer factors in the construal includes Ideal Cognitive Model and the influence of cognitive context. All in all, the thesis produces the view: the process of explaining the construal of SMS cannot be separated from the intervention of pragmatic factors. Consequently, the perspective of this thesis is the combination of cognitive-pragmatic interface. These are the compensation and perfection for the conceptual blending theory. Any study of a linguistic phenomenon must have a complete methodology as support. The author will use analytic method, case study, inductive method and other methods and extensive corpus of humorous SMS to testify the reality of research, and the results of the research is that conceptual blending theory could explain the inner mechanism of meaning construction of humorous SMS and dynamic process of its mental space. Finally, the conclusion is that the Conceptual Blending Theory provides the significant basis for cognition language phenomenon, and there are some limitations in the inner inference of CBT, which need be discussed with the pragmatic factors. This thesis is mainly composed of six parts. Part one introduces the scope, object, hypothesis of this research; part two reviews CBT and humorous SMS; part three mainly sets forth the methodology of this thesis and the design of analysis; part four is the results which verify the feasibility of hypothesis and get the findings; part five further studies the explanation power of conceptual blending theory based on the ideal cognitive model and the influence of cognitive context, finally, analyzes the limitation of CBT; part six concludes the thesis.
