This paper compares the theoretical writings of both Chinese and foreign scholars in order to explain the necessity of building cross-cultural communication skills for both Chinese teachers and Chinese learners. What's more, it analyzes the conditions and factors involved in the transition from Chinese language ability to cross-cultural communication skills. This paper also focuses on the description of the writer's successful attempt in teaching Chinese to foreign learners as second language, trying to provide new approach.
