Reasons Why Korean Television Dramas Prove Hits In China And Enlightment Gained From Dae Jang Geum

It has been a long time since Chinese audiences were keen on Korean television dramas.This phenomenon is not only inseparable from the quality of drama in itself but also closely related to the aesthetic expectations of our audience. CCTV as well as local television stations at the provincial level are trying to introduce Korean television dramas, which has become a ratings guarantee. And Korean drama are repeatedly broadcast. Why can Korean dramas be so popular in China, a country with rich cultural heritage? Chinese have to do introspection and summarize so as to better promote the development of film and television drama.In this paper, Dae Jang Geum, a historical drama,was taken as an example, and the reasons why Korean dramas have become hits in China were analysed, and enlightment for Chinese television dramas was gained. Firstly, the history of Korean drama broadcasting in China was traced. Combined with the main features of its three main narrative themes-family ethics, love and history, this paper highlighted the hit of Dae Jang Geum in China and showed the hit extent of the drama through the ratings; Secondly, the reasons for the hit of Dae Jang Geum, was analysed. That is, Dae Jang Geum has its own characteristics, including theme, plot and scene, and it correspondes with the Chinese culture and the appreciation psychology, which was explained from two aspects—the rise of the culture status of women and people's desire for true feelings and yearning for moral traditions. Finally, the contemporary problems in Film and TV as well as the references from advantages and disadvantages of Korean dramas were put forward to find the way of developing Chinese television drama. Chinese TV people should should learn the successful experience of Korean dramas, and develop a feasible implementation strategy according to our own characteristics and advantages so that our domestic dramas can go farther and higher.
