He created a style featured with plainness and conciseness, rhythmicity and power, passion and artistry. A foreign critic said that Liu was the fauvism in the woodcut field of China.Liu joined the anti-imperialist union and Left-wing Federation in 1933.With the outbreak of the war against Japan,the life style and social order was greatly changed. He worked underground in this period, and once moved to Xi'an, Chongqing and other places.Liu Tiehua woodcarving art reflects the revolutionary realism's aesthetic orientation, emphasis is also the education function of art.
