| People who can speak second language are referred to as bilinguals. This phenomenon can be described as bilingualism that is a domain of important social phenomenon interested by cognitive psychologist over last decades. It provides an excellent representation of the sample. Bilingual word meaning extraction is an important Subject in bilingual research. Word meaning extraction is a process in which word meaning is accessed by seeing its form and hearing its sound. The research on mechanism of bilingual word meaning involves theoretical and practical issue such as how the language information is processed, how effective reading is made, and how the language teaching is performed? So its research is very important study with theoretical and practical value.According to the cognitive processing of conceptual feature theory, the two experiments in the present study were designed to test Chinese college students' psychological characteristic by using bilingual feature verification task during different SOAs. The materials in the two experiments were prepared by reference with foreign concept generation norms. The assumptions of experiments are proposed by bilingual interactive activation plus model (BIA+ Model). The objective of the study is to explore the mechanism of bilingual word meaning.In Experiment 1, we used a feature verification task to test the influence of Conceptual Features on Word Meaning Extraction across Chinese-English Language. In experiment 2, by manipulating the stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) between the presentation of the concept name and target feature we investigated the influence of conceptual features on word meaning extraction across Chinese-English Language during different SOAs.The results indicated: 1) the reaction time for distinctive feature is shorter than for shared feature when Chinese college student extract word meaning in L1 (Chinese), and participants made fewer errors to distinctive than shared features. 2) The reaction time for distinctive feature is shorter than for shared feature when Chinese college student extract word meaning in L2 (English), and participants made fewer errors to distinctive than shared features. 3) Between L1 and L2 the reaction time of which Chinese college student extracted word meaning in L1 (Chinese) is shorter than the reaction time in L2 (English) among all kinds of conceptual features in two experiment. 4) the reaction time for distinctive features in L1 were shorter than distinctive features in L2 at every SOA, and the reaction time for shared features in L1 were shorter than shared features in L2 at every SOA. However, between L1 and L2 the difference of the reaction time of which Chinese college student extracted word meaning decreased at the longer SOAs. |
