By analyzing Director Tian's major works from the perspective of stylistic dimension, Chapter One summarizes respectively the stylistic characteristics and aesthetic tendency of his career which falls into three stages. Meanwhile, discussions and suggestions are made on phased findings in studying Tian's style and features in making a film.In Chapter Two, synthetic analysis is conducted in terms of themes and narrative dimensions. There are chiefly two parts in this Chapter. Through careful study of ideology reflected in his films in each phase, a temporary conclusion is reached in Part One that Tian's tendency to construct national allegory and grand topics is the combined effects of "elite idealism" and philosophy of "practical rationalism" in China's tradition. And Part Two systematically discusses a focus of audience's attention—acceptability of Tian's films.
