Miguel de Arriaga Brum da Silveira was a famous government official in Macao at the turn of the 18th and 19th century when was Macao's political, economic and social transition period. He administered as Royal Justice, Portugal Customs sheriff and Crown Royal Treasurer and was in most authority in the Macao's Portuguese Government.The thesis mainly focused on stories about Miguel de Arriaga Brum da Silveira, collected, collated and differentiated many related documents, absorbed the results of previous studies and analyzed his legendary life. It based on documents such as Portuguese Dongbo Tower Archives file:Compilation on Macao in the Qing Dynasty in Chinese, Archival Compilation on Macao during the Ming and Qing Dynasty and etc.Miguel de Arriaga Brum da Silveira had had a post as Royal Justice for more than 20 years in Macao during when he solved British invaded Macao event peacefully, helped Guangdong government pacify Cheung Po Tsai-the famous pirate, tried his best to get more trade rights and broadened economy resources for Portuguese in Macao. As a result of his contribution to Macao's social development, he was considered as Father of Macao by common people and this period as Miguel de Arriaga Brum da Silveira Times by historians.However, Miguel de Arriaga Brum da Silveira was lightly criticized because he was involved in Opium trade and Suffered a major setback in the Portugal's political campaigns. Therefore we cannot simply analyze his Merits and demerits but comprehensively discuss the complex element of his Intelligence, power and desire.
