The Discovery Of Individuals And Identity In Youth Movies

With the developing of the market economy since the 1990s, the modern trend in China is in an accelerating pace. On the one hand, as the market economy completely replaced the planned economy, people no longer attached to the unit, and human existence was discovered as an individual. Based on that, the discussions about human values, human dignity, and human rights are never over. On the other hand, because of the unrestful social transformation and the material temptation of modernity, people are always in the sense of powerless for the reality and confusion for self-positioning. This difficult transformation from "natural" to "modern" especially affects the younger generation, who are in the cusp of reform trend. Now that the 80 generation have become the mainstream of contemporary society, it's necessary to approach the subject of younger's identity, which is under the attack of modernity.Starting with the youth movie, this paper firstly describes the expression of youth in movies of different times, so as to find how a youth generation develops from a "man" depend on a unit to a "man" exist as an individual. From their hard survival and uninhibited, rebellious spirit in such an uncertain state, we found it's the crisis and the appeal for identity that bring on the theme of youth. Thus, the subject turns to how the process of modernization interferes with younger's identity. After the theoretical review, this paper tries to analyze younger's confusion and struggle of identity from internal and exterior reasons. All of this analysis is for finding a path from which the youth generation can shake off the cultural difficulties and to realize their self-positioning and social positioning.
