Beijing Dongyue Temple, as the largest existing Dongyue Palace, is located outside Chaoyangmen today. After several reconstructions in more than 600 years, the temple covers 47000 m2, and the whole 400 houses occupy a total block. Even in the eyes of modern people, it is worthy of Beijing's landmark. From the perspective of construction layout and space shaping, Beijing Dongyue Temple learns from other Dongyue palaces, whose style is a mixture of palace and civil architecture, so how to deal with this contradiction between public and official styles even affects this temple's positioning. This paper attempts to grasp the triple identities of God of Mount Tai chronologically--Regime Protector, Hell Judge and Life Holder, and correspondingly interprets the triple architectural concepts of Beijing Dongyue Temple-the palaces, the hell and the tribal of popular Gods, and explaisn the coexistence of official palaces and folk temples pragmatically. Besides the brief introduction to the identities of God of Mount Tai and the architectural form of general Dongyue Palace, the paper is divided into 3 chapters:the first one begins with the analysis of Regime Protector, which is combined with high-leveled palace buildings, then interprets this temple as strengthening the marriage of religion and politics. The second chapter starts from the functions of Hell judge to understand those thrilling hell-like buildings, and in the last discusses its part of moral purifier in history. The third chapter proves the cause of the existence of massive folk Gods in such luxurious palaces is the rise of Goddesses and industry Gods, they bring in a variety of folk architectural elements. Finally comes the conclusion that Beijing Dongyue Temple can simultaneously meet the needs of maintaining the regime's stability from those feudal nobilities' point of view, and facilitating pray customs of ordinary people. It is truly a most prosperous temple in Beijing.
