Research On Dongyue Temple Fair In Dongyue Village Of Xinyang

The temple fair is an important carrier of Chinese folk customs, with a wealth of folk culture. Henan Province is located in the Central Plains, of which the temple fair has a long history and a far-reaching influence. However, there were few scholars researching on the temple fairs of south Henan Province. The Dongyue village in Xinyang City of Henan Province is among the first batch of Chinese selected traditional villages, which is featured by the combination of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. The Dongyue Temple Fair is one of the most influential and distinctive local temple fairs. This article is a case study of Dongyue Temple Fair in Dongyue villege of Xinyang based on the substantial fieldwork and the combination of relevant materials. The main body of the research is divided into six sections:Firstly, the preface. This study focuses on the reason of the selection of this topic and the academic significance, and meanwhile it have an academic comb about the previous studies. At last I will introduce the research methods of the topics and the description of relevant issues.Secondly, introduction of the Dongyue village which is home to the Dongyue Temple Fair. It mainly includes the natural geographical circumstance and the historical and cultural environment.And Dongyue Temple Fair is derived from the background, gradually becoming an influential local folk culture feast.Thirdly, the history and status of Dongyue Temple Fair. Comb the origin and development of Dongyue Temple Fair, and describe its status including the organization and management and the main participation of it.Fourthly, the forms and characteristics of the Dongyue Temple Fair. To start with, I will introduce the Gods system and the relationship between the Gods system and people’s life. Next is the ceremony system including religious rites, customs of wishing, and praying. Moreover, it will be the other activities such as trading and divination. Finally, I will have a summary about the features of Dongyue Temple Fair.Fifthly, the relationship of Dongyue Temple Fair and the villagers’ life. To begin with, Religious belief satisfies the needs of the people from the heart, which also plays a role in enlightenment. Secondly, The Dongyue Temple Fair creates an atmosphere of entertainment, and it is certainly another carnival after the New Year. Furthermore, the Dongyue Temple Fair provides a stage for the folk literature and art which greatly promotes its spread and development.
