A Study On The Historiography Of Shen Yunlong

Shen Yunlong (1910-1987), was a famous historian who researched modern history in Taiwan. He was born in Dongtai County of Jiangsu Province and early years was educated by Chinese traditional culture. During youth age he suffered rough study experience even was fired out by school two times, and finally finishes school in Japan. As early as middle school times he joined in the China Youth Party, and had much dispute with politics. Although worked for government several years, his interest for modern history research was still going on. Shen resigned job on 1956, then specialized for history and writing, finished comment for Li Yuan Hong, Life of Duan Qirui, Yearly Register Edit of Mr. Huang Yingbai, Comment for Xu Shichang, etc. monograph of period of Republic of China. Moreover, he participated the interview of "visit plan dictate of Republic of China", which held by modern history research institute of Taiwan, and achieve millions of interview record. But the best known of him, was his Modern Chinese historical ZhengBian stratum, Sequel, the Three Series, which spent him more than ten years and made tremendous contributions to the research of Modern History.Due to politics, Sampradaya, history materials and other factors, the academic study of Shen Yunlong had been extremely weak. This article tried to reveals his academic achievement and historiography idea through outlining his academic history and gave him a more objective evaluation and academic orientation. It included introduction and body two parts which divided into three chapters. Main state of the introduction was the historiography of research status about Shen Yunlong and the necessary of research. The first chapter, mainly to clarify the lifetime of Shen and the origin of his academic. The second chapter, discussed achievement of him on oral history and historical data compilation, also his awareness of the importance on historical data. The third chapter, through dissertating the importance of history record on the study on characters of the Republic of China, summarized his history achievement on this area, approached the historical idea on his work.
