On Heidegger's Thinking Of Technology And Humanities

As for the discussion topic of technology and humanities, a multitude of contemporary philosophers have concerned it in their works, Heidegger has no exception. Modern human beings live in an age of technology, in which technology has influenced our way of lives and even ourselves deeply. For one thing, technology and modern sciences have provided more and more quick and convenient means to our lives. For another, modern sciences and technology have undermined natural environment that we are relying on, and have influenced the aspect of our spiritual lives. Heidegger recognized this crisis farsightedly, inspected and introspected modern sciences and technology thoroughly. In his opinion, modern sciences and technology rooted in metaphysics that is the accomplished pattern of them while metaphysics had deviated from the original course of Greek philosophy, and even corrupted. Starting from this very reason, he did a myriad of work to criticize traditional metaphysics. In Being and Time, Heidegger established a new way to discover the essence of being from the angle of Dasein. However, the notion of Dasein cannot solve all the problems on being. In his later works, Heidegger believed that art is the major way to find truth, and all kinds of arts have poetic quality. And then, another contribution of him to the culture of humanities is that he found language is the home of being, and human beings should dwell on land poetically. In the process to discuss the above content, this author found that there was a strong sense of thread in Heidegger's works. Based on this viewpoint, this article is a reexamining on Heidegger's thought of technology and humanities with this sense of thread.
