As the major post-colonial discourse of critical theory, the cultural imperialism has been given more critical connotation when facing with the rapid development trend of globalization. Cultural imperialism is the US-led Western dominant culture, it replaces the national culture in many ways, making its diversity meaningless. The development of cultural imperialism , would eventually diminish the cultural diversity and pose the threat to the development of cultural multiplicity worldwide.This article attempts to analyse, critique and innovate the culture imperialism theory from the standpoint of protecting the national culture. From the view of cultural philosophy, this paper takes the historical function of culture in the advancement of globalization as the subject, and studies the striking problems on cultural imperialism in the context of globalization in order to find a ways to solve each kind of conflicts and ensure the harmonious development in different cultures. Starting with the discussion of cultural imperialism, this article attempts to explain the formation and development of cultural imperialism, analyse its penetration and damage in order to find the strategy to against it. This article divides into three parts:The first part discusses the main theoretical achievement on cultural imperialism. With the analysis of the practical ways of cultural imperialism, the attitude toward it will be clear.The second part mainly discusses the cultural imperialism in the process of globalization. This part analyses the relation between cultural globalization and cultural nationalization, and discloses the invasion of cultural imperialism in the name of cultural globalization in order to point out the future direction of national culture. The third part elaborates the effective ways of resistance toward cultural imperialism. Taking Chinese culture as the example, this part proposes that in order to protect the national culture, measures should be taken to adhere to the development of cultural industries and the national cultural independence, and to enhance the cultural awareness and self-confidence.
