Chinese scholars have researched modern Chinese complement"chulai"for long and have had a remarkable achievement. Based on previous extensive studies and cognitive linguistics theory, this thesis aims to the modern Chinese structure"V.+chulai"which is used at the end of sentences and clauses.Firstly, baesd on Ronald W. Langacker's theory of space motion, the paper describes basic motional relations of modern Chinese complement"chulai"in"V.+chulai"and summarizes its spatial cognition meanings. Secondly, according to the result, the paper builds image schemas in aspect of different features of motion factors, and then concludes central semantic features of modern Chinese complement"chulai". Finally, based on Ronald W. Langacker and George P. Lakoff's metaphor theory and mapping theory, the paper makes in-depth analysis of metaphorical meaning of modern Chinese complement"chulai", so as to construct the mapping schemas.
