A Research Of The Idiom Rhetoric

This paper primarily treats the idiom rhetoric problem based on the studies of predecessors, and we mainly distinguish between the idioms'criterion use and the idioms'variation use .By analysis it arrives at the following elementary conclusions: the idiom rhetoric is the choice and application of the idioms. Idioms'form is fixed. It can express more meanings with little words. And there are many idioms involved figures of speech. All these advantages are the main factors to choose and use idioms. The idioms'collocation can tone up the expressive force. The idioms usually occur out of orderly forms or meanings, and it has positive rhetorical function. The idiom rhetoric should obey the language specification, sometimes it can also break or creative the language specification.This paper consists of the introduction, the body (which is made up of three parts), and the conclusion. In the introduction, the relevant theoretical prerequisite and the rudimentary thoughts for the discussion of idiom rhetoric are given; the text will treat the related problems of the idiom rhetoric from three aspects. Firstly we analyze the advantages on rhetoric from the standpoint of the form and meaning characteristics of idioms, and the difference between the idioms and the other proverbs .We will make analysis on the selection and the collocation of the idioms with these advantages. Next part researches on the variation use of idioms. The variation use of idioms is one characteristic of idiom uses, and it's also the main emphasis of this paper. The flexible application of idioms can achieve the rhetorical effect by three ways including the change of form﹑the change of meaning﹑the change of form and meaning. At last we resume some basic requirements of the idiom rhetoric standing on the point of language application criterion in view of the pointed problems existed in partial idioms and the problems that may come along. The conclusion part is used to summarize the research and bring out the corresponding views.
