The world has seen a great progress which China has made in the past twenty years in college English teaching, but it is also noticed that college English can't satisfy the development of the society, and meet the need of cultivating integrative students neither. The basic measure to improve students'qualities and abilities is to improve the quality of the teachers'group which is the guarantee of teaching. It has become the key issue in educational reform that teachers'quality has to be improved and teachers have to be developed. The most valuable attempt to solve the quality problem of college teachers is to explore the way of self development which suits to China's national conditions. Teachers'reflection has been proved to be one of the most effective ways for teachers to develop themselves.Though reflective teaching has been researched a lot abroad, yet there is still much to be done at home. For more in-depth survey of English teachers'reflection and development, this paper does a research on teachers'reflection and development in forms of questionnaire and teacher's diary based on the previous studies, in order to demonstrate the relationship between the two.Some studies have showed that teachers seldom reflect their teaching; however this paper finds that it is not the case. Conversely, reflection is very popular among college teachers. Teachers in colleges are eager to know more about their teaching, and are able to reflect. What's more, they can come up with measures to improve their teaching. Despite the exciting phenomenon, college teachers are lack of the relative reflective theory and systematical process. As far as the reflective modes are concerned, the proportion of reflection through students is larger than that through colleagues, while the following is the one through literature, and the lowest proportion is the mode that through one's diary and through video. The reasons might be the lack of teachers'autonomy, the insufficiency of supervision in colleges, and the lack of equipment. The study also finds that college English teachers are capable of research, but are not efficient in teaching. The study shows directly with graphics that teachers of high reflection frequency are more capable than those of lower one.The study is expected to be beneficial to the reflection and development of college English teachers. Also, the paper provides colleges and supporting institutions with valuable reference, so that they can make large progress in teachers'training etc.
