The current research paper studies the basic concepts of the theory of existential psychotherapy, represented by Irvin Yalom, and focuses on the exploration of the main concepts of this theory in the novel When Nietzsche Wept.The name of Irvin Yalom is known to a wide range of readers, whose sphere of interests includes the study of modern approaches to psychotherapy in general, and existential psychotherapy in particular. Through the research one may find that existential psychotherapy shares the themes and ideas with existentialism, and widely explores the main concepts of its most prominent representatives. The aim of the current study is to provide the generalization of the most common principles of existentialism, to show the adoptive nature of existential psychotherapy, to analyze the basic principles of Yalom's theory of existential psychotherapy, and to interpret the novel When Nietzsche Wept from the perspective of Yalom's therapeutic approach.The current research is the interdisciplinary study in the fields of philosophy, psychology, and literature.
