Generally speaking, Chinese people pay attention to community-orientation while handling the relationship between one and others and the outstanding performance is the complicated evaluation about the fact that sophistication is regarded as a cultural phenomenon. Lu Xun, who is the great pioneer of modern Chinese literature and in the crossroads of East and West culture of the modern and the ancient, also demonstrates the characteristics of this culture. As previous studies involve little about this, this paper intends to study some controversial issues about whether Lu Xun is sophisticated or not and Lu Xun's discussion on the sophistication, with the survival strategy and enlightenment as the focus.This paper first starts from the various debate on whether Lu Xun is sophisticated, discusses the identification of Lu Xun from three perspectives and conducts a preliminary description about the cause of three views. Gao Changhong, etc, believe that Lu Xun is an old sophisticated man. Some people think that Lu Xun is not so sophisticated at all, and still others consider that Lu Xun is an unreasonable man. People who hold the idea that Lu Xun is sophisticated may satirize Lu Xun as an "artist", "soldier", "sophisticated old man". People who stick to that Lu Xun is not sophisticated at all may put more emphasis on the basis of his positive attitude towards progressives like Qu Qiubai, works of Zhou Zouren and his selfless help to Zeng Tianshe; Lu Xun is unreasonable which can be represented as that his is not following the public, not following fashion, and not fawning and pleasing on superiors.Then, this paper conducts a preliminary study about the sophisticated culture and nationalistic critique. This paper makes summaries according to the articles of Lu Xun and conductes a preliminary analysis about Lu Xun's view of the origin and strategy of sophistication, its own paradox and the value of sophistication, combining with psychology and so on. In Lu Xun's eyes, being sophisticated is mainly a kind of self-protection which is decided by the environmental factors. And its strategy mainly are type of echo, type of shutting up and type of acting dumb when communicate with words. As for the function of being sophisticated, Lu Xun think that the one who is good at being sophisticated, at least, has some advantages as follows:Complying with secularity so as to receive approval and affirmation; pretending to be nobly so as to get self-protection; weakening disadvantages so as to try gain sympathy.Finally, this paper discusses Lu Xun's survival strategy of using sophistication for self-protection. This paper conducts a traced attribution analysis of Lu Xun's sophistication, and conducts a preliminary study about the specific ways of Lu Xun's sophistication. The sophistication of Lu Xun comes from the birthmark under heavy pressure of ethos and cultures. And acquirement of familiar with traditional code of conduct through self experience, more specifically, the contributing factors are including that the bad time he born, the brutal act of political Struggle, living in the literally world, the precipitation of old habit, in the literally world. The strategies of LuXun's sophistication are to be ambiguous, not to clarify his positions to delay time and take a wait-and see approach; to hit a person when he is down, not to head-on confrontation, the means of LunXun's sophistication consist of writing and speech so as to showing his ideas, being engaged in publication so as to gather comments from colleagues, cultivating his moral and putting his family affairs in order, so as to keep the big family function well.In brief, the study of combining the characteristics of local culture, which is that Lu Xun and Chinese tradition focus on the worldly wisdoms is the first to be done in the country. Many conclusions of this paper are only exploratory and need to be further studied. But these conclusions, with no doubt, to some extent, have the meaning of filling the gaps.
