In 2001, the"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" which is directed by Ang Lee gained the Best foreign language film of the year in Oscars. By comparison, the local film in Taiwan at this time which depends on the grants from "the government" was from bad to worse. In 2001, it only got the 0.2% market share and dropped to the bottom. In order to revive the film industry, "The government" began to modify the grants programs, and took a series of "policies" with advantages for the new directors.At the same time, film production companies have begun to try to make Genre Film and follow Hollywood's market mode. They boldly took cooperation with the new directors for the taste of the main consumers which nowadays are more and more younger, and then a number of new directors stepped on the art stage. Compared to the Senior directors of Taiwan who are difficult to change the deep creative habits, without the burden of art, these new directors try to keep an open posture when they make films. To This paper, the new directors who have directed a feature film by 2000 and their creations in the new century's first decade when the Taiwan cinema is calling a revival were the research objects.Paper consists of four parts:First, wonderful flowers in wilderness. The current of the film industry in Taiwan is difficult, but the new directors stand out in trouble. Local, youth and homosexual love are the three hot points in there films.Second, commerce film. The development of commerce film is the key of film industry revival, and type is the basis for the concept of commerce film production. In this chapter, the works which can be called milestones in the type of film-making and their directors were the main objects of studying, the growth of production costs from low to high were discussed. Third, art film. In the new directors, some people still continue to show the characteristic culture which is important in the local films. The balance in the personality and popular is being concerned about, and some new directors have gradually developed their own style.Fourth. the generation of revival. With the signing of ECFA, Taiwan cinema gets new opportunities to develop. New directors should seize opportunities, face challenges and change the rigid, stick to the character.Finally, this picture tends to draw the following conclusions:In the first decade of the new century, the new directors of Taiwan who work in a difficult film industry environment have made remarkable achievements and become the support of Taiwan cinema, the revival of Taiwan cinema is not remote any more.
