Since the new millennium, Taiwan film industry is in a downturn. After the Taiwancampaign of new movies, the excellent film director appears a lean stance, and thequality of whose more than a handful works is also uneven and fragmental. Associatedwith this, the funding gap, which attributed to most of investors holding the stop-seeattitude to Taiwan film market, is more aggravated the dilemma of Taiwan film industry,and lead to the breakout of filmmakers becoming more difficult. During this historicalsituation, number of outstanding Taiwanese female director, whose would appear inTaiwan film with posture groups, breakthrough from the Taiwan film industry’ssurrounded, and inject a breath of fresh air for Taiwan film industry, so become alandscape in Taiwan film cultural ecology which can not be ignored.Since Women rights movement occurring in seventies of last century, there haveemerged a large number of female director in countries around the world. But over time,under the influence of the different national policy, war, religion, history, culture andmany other reasons, the country which can be formed with a group of influential femaledirector has only in a handful of countries and regions. Benefit to the promotion ofTaiwan internal policies and Women Imaging Associations, Taiwan can have a stablenumber of female directors groups. The National Film Fund of Taiwan Governmentprovides a relatively fair financing platform for women film directors, and theorganization of Women Film Festival is enhanced the impact of their works. Thosepeople such as Li Yunchan, Wang Yuya, Zero Chou, Chen Yingrong, Zheng Fenfen, FuTianyu, Chen Xinyi and Zeng wenzhen, most of them were born after the1970s, are thecore representative group of female director in Taiwan, and have a wealth of imagecreation such as videos, documentaries, feature films etc. Their works, which has asmart, exquisite and changeable style characteristic, break the shackles ofmale-dominated with a different kind of perspective and expression, convey and flauntthe unique female consciousness and experience, and therefore animate Taiwan film andacquire international awards. Through the above works of eight female directors, thisarticle will not only explore their diverse image style, but also insight into the femaledirector to examine and describe their own destiny, and finally analyze their portrayal ofwandering life as well as the longing for home and nation.As Chinese inland which have number of female directors, this must be an urgently settlement topics. That is, how to introduce the road of development of female directorin Taiwan and form the group of female director. Compared to the developmentbackground and current status of female director in Taiwan and Chinese inland, the lastchapter of this article attempts to appear both the pros and cons of each female director,and outlined the development prospects of female directors in two places in order toachieve mutual learning purposes.
