This article,taking Zhou Zouren's translation works of Japanese literature and folklore as the object of research, studied the relationship between Zhou Zouren's thought of folk culture and his Japanese translation works by a meticulous text reading of Chinese and Japanese language. With a way of linking personal history and social history, this article puts an emphasis that Zhou Zouren's overseas life experience in Japan has an influential effect on the formation of his folk culture concept, and that the analysis of literary taste and folk meaning presented in his translation works, by which Zhou's literary and folk preference is interpreted.This article is composed of introduction, four chapters and conclusion: the part of introduction discussed the overall feature of Zhou Zouren's Japanese translation works and its link to his folk concept, predecessors'research trends and this articles research motive. The main body of this article consists of four coherent chapters:The first chapter makes clear the formation of Zhou's folk concept, especially restored Zhou's overseas life experience in Japan and it's crucial influence on his vision of folk culture and his preference to Japanese works. The second chapter, with a pointview of specific context reading, according to the comparison of Japanese works and Zhou's translated works, or different translator's works, concretely observed the folk meaning from language to text in Zhou Zouren's Japanese literature works; The third chapter, with translator's folk culture annotation and theoretical folklore works as a research object, made a specific analysis of the literary taste presented in the woks above. The last chapter theoretically stated Zhou Zouren's Japanese translation works'overall feature, namely combination of literary preference and folk preference. These two preference get involved with each other and permeates Zhou's lifetime studied, and from which stretching to Zhou's fundamental key of "nature laws-human sympathy" and "interest-humor" when writing and behaving. The last part made a general conclusion of Zhou Zouren's translation works'feature of uniting literary preference and folk preference so that propagated the purport of this article.
