A Report On E-C Translation Of The Laws Of Human Nature(Chapter One)

This report is based on E-C translation of The Laws of Human Nature(Chapter One).Authored by American writer Robert Greene,this book focuses on the human subject and its complex behavioral patterns for instructing people to improve and motivate themselves,while the source text aims to reflect on the irrationality of the human nature and provide readers with understanding and approaches of emotion management.Psychology is an interdisciplinary research.In view of the fact that its texts involve a wide range of knowledge,Eco-translatology which highlights multiple symbiosis has been selected to guide this translation practice.Originated from China,Eco-translatology gradually attracts more and more attention of scholars after two decades’ development,and its theoretical framework becomes substantiated.However,there is still much room for improvement in the quantity and quality of E-C psychological text translation based on Eco-translatology.In light of this,the project is conducted with four core principles of Eco-translatology,i.e.“Adaptation and selection” is used for guiding the whole translating process;“Translator-centeredness”for enhancing the translator’s dominant position;As a key translating approach,“Three-dimensional transformation” is for text transplantation;“Multi-dimensional integration” for guaranteeing the quality of translation.In the end,this report summarizes the practical effects of applying Eco-translatology in E-C psychological text translation as well as relevant translation strategies and skills.In hope of enriching Eco-translatology and promoting Chinese translation theory to “go global”,the project fully explains the true essence that theory guides practice while practice reacts on theory.This report is composed of five parts: Chapter 1 is concerning description of the translation project,including the background,research status,introduction to the source text as well as its significance;Chapter 2 introduces the guiding theory Eco-translatology and its core principles adopted in the project.Chapter 3 describes three stages of the translation process and demonstrates how theory guides the practice.Chapter 4 illustrates adaptive transformations from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions respectively with sufficient examples,relevant translation strategies and skills are provided.Chapter 5 is regarding conclusion of the project,which states the translator’s major findings,limitations and suggestions.
