| In China, with the development of the teaching reform, English writing instruction in university has made great progress in many aspects. However, in the actual university writing class, there are still some problems in both teaching and learning. There are lots of researches and theory about the English writing instruction, especially the constructivism and its application to English grammar and reading instruction, which makes great contribution to this thesis.Constructivism assumes that students acquire knowledge and meaning from an interaction between their own experiences and their ideas, teacher should help and stimulate students. Constructivism-based Teaching Models are based on constructivist learning theory. Basically speaking, there are three models:Scaffolding Instruction Model, Anchored Instruction Model and Random Access Instruction Model. This thesis is about the application of these models to English writing instruction.The study is an experimental research in which the cause-effect relationship is employed to compare the difference between adapting Constructivism-based Teaching Models and traditional teaching approach. In the starting stage of the study, the information and data are collected from the library and internet for literature review. In the final stage of the study, the analysis about the questionnaires and tests are conducted to find out whether students'writing performance is improved through this experiment.The study begins with the literature review about Constructivism and English writing and teaching. After that, the application of Constructivism-based Teaching Models is introduced in details. Finally it is an empirical study to prove that the application of constructivism-based English writing teaching models for English majors is workable. It is beneficial for teachers to facilitate English writing classroom teaching effectively, it can help to improve the students'writing proficiency and writing skills, and it is favorable to cultivate the students'ability of learning.The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. The second chapter is devoted to literature review, in which constructivism and writing are discussed. The implication of three constructivism models is explained in detail in chapter three. The chapter four is an empirical study about the application of constructivism in the writing instruction with data collection, data analysis, and a model sample teaching note. The chapter five is the conclusion of the study.The study connects the theory of Constructivism to real classroom. The emphasis is not about the theory, but the application. The aim of the study is to cultivate the students' writing ability, to improve the English writing instruction for English majors. |
