There appeared lots of excellent tanci works in the Ming and Qing Dynasty, for example, Zai Sheng Yuan, Bing Sheng Hua, andLiu Hua Meng. Most of the works were created by female writers and read by the female only. The emergency of these works broke the situation that men governed the literary arena in ancient society, which bring great influence on the fiction writing of modern women writers.Tian Yu Hua is a representative work of these excellent tanci works. It is the first tanci novel created by female at the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, widespread among the folk before modern times. Together with Zai Sheng Yuan and Bi Sheng Hua it is called"three great works of tanci", and called"flower of south and dream of north"together with A Dream in Red Mansions. Different from other tanci works abundant in plots like romantic love affair or talented woman disguised as a man achieving fame, Tian Yu Hua had not only significant historical events of the late Ming and the description of political struggle, but also the delicate description of real family life, created a group of characters of distinctive images such as Zuo Weiming and Zuo Yizhen, revealed the dark and corrupt politics of the end Ming Dynasty, reflected the persecution the feudal system placed on women, and is of its unique feature and artistic charm. Despite a widely known among the civilian since its coming into being, it has never been able to get full attention in the academic field. There exist phenomena of neglecting and misreading in the literary history, and there are only a few scholars show their interest in it up to now. These few scholars have made some progress in interpreting this work ideologically or from the point of view of female narration. Actually, there are still more space in studying the work. This thesis, based on text reading, digs the artistic value of the novel from the aspects of creating, thoughts and artistry.
