The Study On State Adjective In Modern Chinese Dictionary (The 5th Edition)

Since the middle of last century, the "Modern Chinese Dictionary" as our medium and normative language classic dictionary of modern Chinese language, many other dictionaries are incomparable with its academic and social influence.Therefore the academic community has been playing more and more attention on the compilation and revision.The research helps us to know and understand the advantages and disadvantages of "Modern Chinese Dictionary".This will contribute to the progress of lexicography."Modern Chinese Dictionary" (The 5th edition) (below it referred to "Modern Chinese") adopted lexicon systems of the middle school textbooks ,and paid attention to absorption of the scholars'new research in recent years: we divided the words into 12 categories. The adjectives were divided into two subsidiary categories: state words and attributes words. State words were mainly consisted of the adjectives by overlapping or addition. Investigating its structure ,semantic characters and syntactic function were very distinctive;It also had the degree of characteristics;The state word had the same of glossary significance with properties of the adjectives, but grammatical meaning was different. These properties determined the state word had the value of further exploration.This study will extract the state word from "Modern Chinese Dictionary" according to the theories of Chinese lexicology, semantics and hermeneutics display the real appearance of tagging, interpretation, match example and the related syntactic semantic issues of the state words .The meta-language of dictionaries is a tool which dictionary writers describe and explain to the vocabularies and meanings. It is also an important mean that readers confirm and paraphrase the words in communication. Its value is that can make interpretations optimizing and purifying; The meta-language of dictionaries reflect specific words and expressions in the status of vocabulary system, the study of The meta-language of dictionaries will promote the core component of Chinese words for Chinese lexical semantics and contribute to the vocabulary research scientific and systematic; The consciousness of meta-language can largely increase people's communication ability. The meta-language research helps to improve author's language ability, enhance communication efficiency, also can promote the development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Most of previous studies of meta-language researched the whole dictionary, and exampled all kinds of words without distinguished the parts of speech. While "Modern Chinese Dictionary" as a comprehensive material for study, discussing the meta-language of the state word is rare.Our study will only investigate and describe the state word. Using the way of statistical, description, analyzed, and compared extracted the state word. Analying the state word by CCL language database, contrasting on syntax and semantics of each small kind words of the state word and comparing with" Standard Modern Chinese Dictionary".To propose the perfect model of the state word and the rules of paraphrasing and example .We will indicate and improve the problem of the meta-language of the state word .
