Course book is a major component in a course so it is essential to choose an appropriate course book according to the students of different levels. At present, more and more researchers pay attention to the English learning of the non-English major college students. Material analysis on the non-English major college-English course book has already been studied by a lot of researchers in recent years. For example, the analysis on A New English Course, College Experiencing English, New Horizon College English, and the new edition of College English Course books, etc. However, researches analyzing on the course book employed by music, art and P. E. majors in the college are rare. The students majoring in music, art and P. E. are in a comparatively special group. Owing to the importance attached to their professional knowledge by the society, college and themselves, such kind of students'whole English level is comparatively lower than the students majoring in other subjects. This study is an evaluation on the college English course book from the perspective of the students majoring in music, art and P. E.. Different universities choose different college-English course books for the students majoring in music, art and P. E.. This study conducts an evaluation on Zooming In: An Integrated English Course, an English course book series used by the students majoring in music, art and P. E, in Inner Mongolia Normal University, and the first volume, the second volume and the third volume of this course book series are evaluated. The aim of this study is to know the extent to which this course book can meet the needs of this group of students and whether this course book corresponds to the English level of the students.In this thesis, some evaluation theories and some relevant researches are listed. Based on the four steps of evaluation by Van Els et al and relevant theories put forward by Grant, the questionnaire is designed for the students. The questionnaire includes three parts:the first part contains some basic questions about the students themselves, like what is the gender, how old are the students, how many years have those students learned English and what are their marks of the College Entrance Examination; the second part is designed to find out the learning need of those students who are using Zooming In:An Integrated English Course; the third part is the main part of this questionnaire, it includes multiple choices related to the content and the design of the course book. From the results got from the questionnaire, we can see the students' attitude and expectation of the course book. The questionnaire designed for the teacher is the same as the third part of the questionnaire designed for the students. The aim is to consider these questions from the teachers' perspectives, to see whether the teachers and the students coincide in their opinion and to find whether the teachers believe the course book can meet the need of the students. It is a kind of auxiliary measuring research. All the questions in the questionnaires are expressed in Chinese in case they confuse the subjects of the research. To complement the research instruments, the author also interviews 10 students about their opinion of the course book. It includes their positive and negative attitude towards the course book and the reasons of their attitude. There is also some advice about the course book adjustment of the students.Based on the statistic software analysis of SPSS 13.0, this thesis draw the conclusion that Zooming In:An Integrated English Course can satisfy most of the learners' needs and also correspond to most of the students' English level. However, Zooming In:An Integrated English Course is not a perfect course book for the students, it dose have some deficiencies. They include:there is a lack of grammar points in the course book; there are no Chinese explanatory notes and analyses of sentence structure about the long sentences which are difficult to comprehend; there are less topics on the course book related to the cross-cultural theme and some of the topics can not stimulate students' interests on English learning, etc. Based on the results got from the research, some related theories and the features of the students majoring in music, art and P. E., the author puts forward some related suggestions for Zooming In: An Integrated English Course.The significance of the thesis is to analyze and evaluate Zooming In:An Integrated English Course from the perspective of the students who are the learners of this course book. The results of the evaluation on Zooming In:An Integrated English Course may be helpful in judging and determining the appropriateness of using the course book in the local area, and offer some suggestions for further improvement of the course book used by this group of the students.
