Creative Treason In E-C Film Title Translation From The Perspective Of Reception Aesthetics

Under the guidance of reception aesthetics theory in 1960s, this thesis takes E-C film titles of successive Oscar best pictures and nominated films as studying objects and the author lists some examples of English film title translations with the help of those concepts of"horizon of expectations"and"reader's role and status"in reception aesthetics to discuss the application of creative treason in English film title translation.Reception aesthetics first emphasizes the reader's prominent role and status and the important role the readers play in the realization of the meaning of literary works. Its development provided new study angles and methods for translation research. Creative treason has strong explanatory power in applied translation, especially in film titles translation. It's not only a common translation phenomenon, but also an effective translation tactic in film title translation.This thesis, consisting of six chapters, first discusses the emergence, development and application of reception aesthetics theory. Then it reviews the basic information about film title. After that, based on reception aesthetics theory, the thesis analyzes the application of creative treason in E-C film titles translation. The last chapter is conclusion which summarizes the research results and limitations and puts forward some suggestions for future research.Through detailed analysis and study, the present author believes that the translator must insist a principle"one center, three represents and four basic functions"(keep the reader as the center; the translated version must represent the author, the translator and the reader; realize the informative, expressive, aesthetic and vocative functions). This research will be of some realistic significance in perfecting film title translations of Oscar best pictures and nominated films and raising the readers'levels of aesthetic value appreciation.
