The Basic Research On Geographical Literatrue In Ancient China

Geographic knowledge is related with human production, life, politics, and economy. Ancient ancestors have been very concerned about the conditions of earth's surface on which they survived and developed. This sprouted a variety of geographical concept and accumulated a large number of geographical knowledge from the practice of life and production. Geographical literature was an important method to bear the weight of geographical knowledge. The different periods in China had formed a wide variety of geographical literature and most of them had conserved up to the present. So we can research those geographical literatures instructing our practice. Therefore, the research of geographical literature has an important significance from different angles.The aim of this paper will research the formation, composition, carrier, management and application of geographical literature in ancient China with a comprehensive angle to describe and analyze the basic rule. The object of this paper are a variety of books, archives, cartographic recorded on geographical literature in ancient China and the geographical knowledge recorded systematically on other literature's chapters.This paper includes three parts. The first part will describe the basic development of geographical literature in ancient China. According to formative feature of geographical literature in ancient China, it was divided into five stages: Pre-Qin dynasty of origin stage, Qin and Han dynasties to Wei and Jin dynasties of formation, Sui and Tang dynasties to Five dynasties of development, Song and Yuan dynasties of abundance including amount and variety, Ming and Qing dynasties of inheritance and development.The second part will mainly describe the variety and formation of geographical literature in ancient China. On the one hand, according to content and writing genre of geographical books in ancient China, they were divided into geographical series, the atlas, travel notes and extra-territorial geography books and textual research books. The five styles discussed the content, writing features, description formation, as well as the literature of different types in detail. On the other hand, this part will mainly describe the classification and shape feature of map archives in ancient China. According to carrier, content and formation, it was classified to introduce the map's feature of different types, usage, production methods, shapes and some kind of unearthed practicality.The last part will mainly describe the former, conservation and management of geographical literature in ancient China. This part will describe the official literature of geography and private writings of geographical literature in ancient China, and then the conservation and management according to dynasties.This paper is different with former composing and article focusing on the collection of geographical literature or one geographical literature. This paper will mainly research the geographical literature in ancient China with a comprehensive angle, using a new method with practicality to discuss the formation, classification, carrier and management of the geographical literature in ancient China. This paper is a new attempt to research the integration of books and archives.
