Along with the rapid development of culture and technology, and the further communication among countries, the functions of translation are increasingly expanding. Therefore, the research on translation teaching is of greater significance. It turns out to be a difficult and important task in translation teaching how to guide the learners to translate reasonably from source language to target language in the communication of cross-linguistics and cross-cultures.Error Analysis is of great significance, which does not only enrich the research on the theories of foreign language teaching, but provides the teaching activities with actual help as well. The further study of errors made by students greatly promotes the teachers to advance teaching methods and the students to improve skills. With it, more and more research concerns about the errors in students'translations in the present studies at home. However, the studies which focus on the errors in students'translations on the basis of Error Analysis are relatively few. Among them, the combination of both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis is rarely seen. The present study researches the errors in students'translations and explores the correlation between errors and score. The author has conducted a case study in Foreign Language College of Xinjiang Normal University, Xinjiang Agricultural University and Xinjiang University in the form of Chinese-English translation testing. The subjects are the fourth-year English majors who are learning the Chinese-English translation course and are ready to enter for the TEM 8 in the March of 2010. Thirty translations from each class were collected at random from the students'translations for research, with the assistance of translation practice. Based on the classification errors of James, with the statistics of Excel program, different types of errors were collected, classified and analyzed. What's more, the author also invited two English teachers who have been teaching translation for many years to evaluate the translation paper, based on the requirement of translation of TEM 8 translation part. High-score group and low-score group are selected according to the scores. Finally, SPSS is adopted to do T-test and regression to analyze the difference of distributions of errors between both groups and the correlation between errors and scores. It could be drawn from the conclusion that it needs to be improved urgently of the language competence of students at each level. Errors occur frequently ranging from substance, lexical to syntax, among which the type with the highest frequency is lexical level. In the specific classification of errors, we may get the result that the most obvious errors are spelling errors, verb errors, plural errors of nouns, article errors and the errors of predicate and verb. It is also very evident that two groups show significant difference in the distribution of errors, especially at substance level and lexical level. Besides, the closest correlation exists between substance errors, lexical errors and scores.Based on the above, the present study discussed tentatively the possible causes for the errors and offered some suggestions for translation teaching. It is a systematic process to promote the translation teaching for English-major undergraduates. On the one hand, the study and comprehension of translation theories should be enhanced; the awareness of culture of learners should be deepened; the language competence of students should be improved as well. On the other hand, it is important to lie emphasize on the progress of Chinese language and improve Chinese proficiency, and the study of contrast study of Chinese and English. The present study hopes to provide learners, teachers and researchers with some evidence and implications so as to decrease the errors in students'translations. In addition, it is expected to advance the combination of translation theories and study, as well as the promotion of the construction of the discipline of translation.
