Thoughts On The Development And Plight Of New Century Literature

The overall development of New Century Literature is becoming considerably prosperous; however, there are still worries beneath the prosperity. Due to the impact of Postmodernism, New Media and the consumerism, the cultural ecology which formed by the comprehension of the society, economy and literature has made negative effects on contemporary literature and even drawn it into plights. However, we believe that it is inevitable and the literature itself is developing and looking for solutions through its own changes, which corresponds with the rules of literature development since its emergence. With the impact of Postmodernism, the market economy and New Media, the development and variation of literature is not only the necessary way for literature to adapt to but also to survive through the changing ecological and social context. Only when literature returns to itself though ceaseless self-adjustment could it accomplish the self-salvation. And only when they satisfy the needs of the times, society and the public, could literature and authors find and develop a better way. This article attempts to explore the issues on the development and plights faced by New Century Literature in the century of Postmodernism, New Media and popular culture, and hopes to help the study and discussions on contemporary literature.
