| This article is a master's thesis which takes the Japanese famous designer Ikko Tanaka's part design works as the objects of study, and takes the zen esthetics thought and characteristics reflected in his works'visual language as subject. This article elaborates mainly from two aspects which are the zen esthetics thought's influence on Ikko Tanaka's part design works as well as the zen esthetics characteristics that these works present.The full text altogether divides into five parts: The first part mainly elaborated this article's research goal and the research significance, and carries on the comprehensive analysis to this topic research present situation;The second part mainly elaborated the Japanese zen thought's development course after the Chinese Buddhism thought passes on Japan, and its influences on traditional arts,such as Japan's sado, yjerry, the literature, noh- drama and so on, and the process that finally forms the Japanese zen esthetics thought; The third part analyzes Ikko Tanaka's design work's modelling language from the Japanese zen esthetics thought's natural idea, the color idea, the spatial idea seperately, while take the graph, the color, the space and the writing as the consideration items, in order to promulgates the zen esthetics characteristics which its modelling language implicated;The fourth part analyzes Ikko Tanaka's design works from the beauty of mono no aware, the deserted beauty, the primary beauty separately, and elaborates Ikko Tanaka'understanding to the zen esthetics thought as well as the means of artistic expression by which he apples the zen esthetics thought in its design work, thus promulgates the zen esthetics characteristic which its design work presents; The fifth part is the evaluation of his design status and the achievements, mainly elaborates from the contribution for the Japanese design direction's establishment in postwar as a renowned designer, as well as the influence on Japanese plane design development afterwards.
