The Living Environment Of Coal Miners During The Industrial Revolution In Britain

The Industrial Revolution in the 19th century has a major influence in the history of Britain. With the development of Industrial Revolution, each department of the industry has been improved, especially the coal industry. With the extensive use of steam engine and the development of metallurgy, coal has become the key fuel of the industrial technology changes. The increasing demand of coal gives a boost to the mounting output of it. We should realize that the development of coal industry not only depends on the improvement of technologies, but also contains the coal miners' hard work.This article analyses the living environment of coal miners during the Industrial Revolution, which includes three parts. Firstly, it researches on the wretched living conditions of coal miners during the Industrial Revolution. In detail, three distinctive aspects can be identified in the following: labor-time and labor-intensive, working and living conditions, and workers' wages. The second part mainly expounds the negative influence of coal miners'atrocious living environment. As is well known, such wretched conditions in coal industry endanger the safety and health of coal miners. The history of the development of coal industry is a bitter history of the coal-miners. A coin has two sides, although the living environment of coal miners is abominable, there are still improvements in some respects. The third part is mainly about the reasons of the improvement of living environment. This is mainly benefiting from the resistance of coal-miners and the government ordinance, which makes the coal miners' safety and health get protective to a certain extent.
