The social status of women is the dominant research topics in the field of women's history. As the group accounted for half of the total human population, the level of the women's social status is not only directly related to the development of women themselves but also has a significant impact on the development and progress of society as a whole. On the research of the ancient history of women, the political, economic and cultural influences on them within their society are difficult to explore, because the stories of civilian women are rarely accounted in historical data. Therefore, Aristocratic women in all ages of history that are recorded in documents naturally become the main object of the research of ancient women's history. As they have made contributions, large or small, to the social development. Therefore, the study of social status of aristocratic women is not only necessary but also has a very important academic significance.Liao and Jin dynasties are established national regime by Khitan and Jurchen respectively. One succeeded another by time. They were in conflicts with Northern and Southern Sung dynasties respectively and ruled northern China for 300 years. Khitan and Jurchen both belong to the nomadic, hunting and fishing nation in northern ancient China. So there are many similarities between Liao and Jin dynasties established by them, with specific to the social status of aristocratic women, there are some similarities, too. However, there are some differences between the two dynasties in cultural tradition and the focuses in their respective feudal process, which makes the social status of aristocratic women in the two dynasties different and unique from each other.Previous scholars have some treatises on the social status of aristocratic women in Liao and Jin dynasties, but did not do the comparison research of the two. This paper will illustrate the social status of aristocratic women in Liao and Jin dynasties comprehensively, compare their similarities and differences and analyze their changes. from the perspective of their political status, family status and legal status. And I hope that through these comparisons and analysis, it will provide new angles of thinking for further study on political, social, economic and other aspects of Liao and Jin dynasties in the future. In this thesis, the social status of aristocratic women in Liao and Jin dynasties is demonstrated mainly in three aspects. In the first part, the social construction of the aristocratic women in Liao and Jin dynasties is briefly outlined to make clear the class distribution and characteristics of the object. The second part is mainly the discussion of the social status of aristocratic women in Liao and Jin dynasties from the perspective of their political status, family status and legal status and compared their similarities and differences. The third part discusses the changes of the social status of aristocratic women in Liao and Jin dynasties and its causes. I hope that through a detailed description and a comparative analysis of the three aspects above, the overall status of the social status of aristocratic women in Liao and Jin dynasties will be revealed.
