Oral English ability is a standard indicator of social talents as well as the important goal of college English curriculum. The advocation of inquiry learning model in the innovation of college oral English teaching is of great practical significance and research value. In general, the inquiry learning of college oral English refers to college English teachers use modern educational means and media to mobilize a variety of teaching resources to guide students to complete the process of the acquisition of oral skills by the form of inquiry. This kind of teaching which is supplemented by a variety of other teaching methods, by the main form of students'autonomy study, is characteristic of the dependence of student-centered and teacher-led form. Oral inquiry learning which has the traits of enthusiasm, initiative and constrution, is an open, cooperative and practical method. It mainly includes the following four major functions: the integration of language and skills, self-realization, the optimization of teaching effectiveness and the integration of the teaching process.Inquiry learning mode of college oral English teaching has its profound theoretical basis. This thesis discusses the theory basis of inquiry learning from the two aspects of"constructivism theory"and"learning psychology theory". Constructivism holds that people's understanding of the world bases on their own experience, using the original experience, mental structures and beliefs to construct knowledge with the emphasis on learner-centered, initiative, social and situational learning against a simple transfer of knowledge. Thus, in the nature of learning, the most revolutionary view is that learning, instead of passively receiving information, means to actively construct meaning. In the teaching process, the constructivist greatly emphasizes on the importance of dialogue and collaboration rather than the traditional teaching mode of one-way monologue transfer. In learning thinkings, constructivism attaches great importance to the training of creative thinking and learning environment. The main source of psychology of learning theories is Jean Piaget's cognitive development theory which holds that the main logical thinking (mental) development has integrity, transformation and self-tonal characteristics.Through reviewing the current status of college oral English teaching, we can find the teaching exists main four problems: the lag ideas; the passive study; the different oral ability and the loss of creativity in learning and teaching. Based on the above problems, we analyze the behind factors of the education policy, the environment, and teaching methods. According to these main problems, this study demonstrates first the coupling of the iquiry learning and oral English teaching as well as the feasibility of inquiry learning. It also gives the requirements of the method. On this basis, this study explores further to build an inquiry learning mode, using empirical studies to validate the model's actual teaching effectiveness, and make a deep thinkinking about the manipulation of the model.
